Title I – Parent & Family Engagement Policy

 

Riverhead Charter School is committed to fostering strong partnerships with parents and families to support student achievement and success. In accordance with Title I requirements and guidance from the New York State Education Department (NYSED), the school actively promotes meaningful parent and family engagement.

We believe that parents are essential partners in their child’s education and play a vital role in supporting academic success.

 

Purpose of This Policy

This policy describes how Riverhead Charter School will:

  • Involve parents in the development and review of the Title I program.
  • Provide opportunities for parents to participate in school activities and decision-making
  • Support parents in understanding academic expectations and student progress.
  • Promote effective communication between the school and families.

 

Parent Engagement Activities

Riverhead Charter School will:

  • Hold annual Title I parent meetings.
  • Provide opportunities for parent input and feedback
  • Offer workshops and informational sessions for parents.
  • Encourage parent participation in school events and committees
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and school programs.

 

School Responsibilities

Riverhead Charter School will:

  • Provide high-quality instruction aligned with state standards.
  • Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Provide timely information about students’ academic progress.
  • Ensure that communications are accessible and, when possible, provided in families’ home languages.
  • Support parents in understanding academic expectations and in helping their children succeed.

 

Parent Responsibilities

Parents are encouraged to:

  • Support their child’s learning at home.
  • Maintain regular communication with teachers and school staff.
  • Attend parent meetings and school events.
  • Monitor academic progress and assignments.
  • Encourage positive study habits and school engagement.

 

Building Capacity for Parent Engagement

Riverhead Charter School will provide assistance and support to parents by:

  • Offering resources and materials to help parents support learning at home.
  • Providing access to school staff for questions and concerns.
  • Hosting meetings and workshops designed to strengthen family engagement.
  • Supporting a welcoming and inclusive school environment.

 

Accessibility

Riverhead Charter School ensures that parent and family engagement opportunities are accessible to all families. This includes providing information in a language that parents can understand and offering accommodations when necessary.

This policy will be reviewed annually and updated as needed to reflect changes in Title I requirements and school practices.
